HISTORY

Almost half a century ago, MetroNational began with a small land purchase, a parcel of raw acreage, at the time, far from the hub of Houston, off Memorial Drive. Its founders had a hunch, call it a born developer's inherent instinct, there was potential there. This is a company deeply rooted in the value system and work ethic of idealistic entrepreneurs - whose first venture was building homes in subdivisions like Whispering Oaks, Memorial Hollow and other nearby west Houston communities. Its business practices were as straightforward as its floor plans, with a commitment to quality craftsmanship, honorable dealings, consistent performance and respect for customer needs. The company's core concept - where each property is perceived as a total environment, with development, property management, maintenance, landscaping and security services totally integrated - ensures a rare level of quality and performance.

MetroNational's upward curve from home builder to corporate contender was a natural consequence of an inclination to provide well for those it serves. Homeowners need first-class shopping, healthcare and recreational opportunities nearby. From the beginning, the company has met such challenges by doing whatever it takes to make communities work.

From the 1960s through today, MetroNational has literally created a city within a city - Memorial City. Surrounded by the prestigious Memorial villages and neighborhoods, Memorial City today includes The Terrace at Memorial City, Memorial City Mall, Memorial Hermann Memorial City Hospital and its related medical facilities and the three imposing high-rise office towers that comprise Memorial City Plaza. Memorial City is currently undergoing major growth and redevelopment.

Spring Shadows, located in Spring Branch, is the consummate example of MetroNational's time-tested commitment to the concept of quality and value that endures. Begun in 1961, this mixed-use community of homes, apartments and commercial properties is a masterpiece of master-planning. With 300 acres (of a total of 700) available for development, the neighborhood judiciously adds such facilities as churches, recreational fields, retail centers, office buildings, as they are appropriate to the needs and times of those who make their homes there. A YMCA, soccer complex, bank and prototype Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market are recent enhancements.

Centerfield @ Willowbrook is another vibrant master-planned, mixed-use community. On almost 100 acres across from Willowbrook Mall, begun in l994, it combines an exciting array of venues to mutual advantage: including a Methodist Health Care System community health center, The Terrace at Willowbrook Independent Senior Living Community and Hilton Gardens Hotel along with apartments, upscale shopping and residential properties.
